Topographical and Geophysical Survey
At Pre-Construct Archaeology we have a variety of tools and techniques for archaeological surveys at our disposal. Our flexible approach allows us to take into account all options when considering the specific requirements of each project.
Pre-Construct Archaeology's team of skilled surveyors, with mapping and graphics specialist support, provide a full service from data capture and processing, to presentation and interpretation.
Topographic survey records subtle contour changes on the ground as well as buildings and other features. It can be supplemented by a range of geophysical techniques, such as resistivity, magnetic susceptibility or ground penetrating radar which are predictive tools designed to investigate below ground level.
Topographic surveys not only provide a geographical location and context but contour surveys can enhance archaeological fieldwork by providing topographical context for sites and for the location of features within sites.
Geophysics is a non-destructive, fast and relatively inexpensive method of locating archaeological deposits which enables excavation to be targeted and minimised or avoided.
The comprehensive service provided by Pre-Construct Archaeology will integrate the results of survey as part of a complete archaeological package. This will often include evaluation (trial trenching) or excavation, which can be minimised by targeting specific areas identified during survey. This package will be developed in consultation with our clients and tailored to suit the requirements of each of your projects.
