Twenty six archaeological test pits were excavated in the northeast corner of the site at the location of the proposed new school. Natural sand and gravels were observed overlain with peat between. A possible palaeochannel orientated N-S filled with blue grey alluvium and redeposited peat and silty gravel was recorded truncating the peat . Four bands of grey and brown alluvium together up to 2.6m thick these were overlain by 19th century deposits and modern made ground.
