124 High Street, Hadleigh
TQ 80979 86965; (Guy Seddon); evaluation; 9 - 13 September 2002; CTHG02

Three trial trenches revealed extensive truncation of archaeological deposits by building foundations and underground petrol tanks relating to its previous use as a petrol station.

Natural gravel was revealed in the base of all the evaluation trenches at between 71.85m OD and 72.46m OD.

Residual Roman material was recovered, suggesting contemporary activity in the immediate vicinity.

One of the trial trenches revealed a posthole group, possibly a Post-Medieval shed or temporary structure, to the rear of the site. Residual Medieval pottery was also recovered suggesting contemporary activity in the immediate vicinity.
