London Office Site

Back

Plot H1, Europark III, Sittingbourne
TQ 9230 6510; Alexis Haslam; Evaluation; 3rd - 7th February 2003; KCR03

Five trenches were opened across the site. Natural brickearth and gravels were observed at between 3.77m OD and 5.13m OD.

Most of the site appears to have been truncated by brickearth extraction for the nearby brick factory of George Smeed that originally started in the 1830's. Brickearth was first extracted from plot H1 in the years following 1869. Burnt artefacts were recovered from a ditch, pit and postholes may have been associated with the large structure dating from 1900's that was probably a brick-drying shed.
