Plot C1a, Europark III, Sittingbourne
TQ 9215 6485; Alexis Haslam; Evaluation; 6th February 2003; KSW03
Two trenches were opened. Natural gravels were observed at between 7.87m OD and 8.31m OD.
Quarrying for brickearth appears to have taken place during the 19th century probably associated with the nearby brickworks of George Smeed that started in the 1830's. A series of dumped layers also suggest late 19th / early 20th century activity. No archaeological structures or deposits predated this.
