Two factories, 98-100 & 103, 105, 107 Carpenters Road, E15
TQ 3937 8430; TQ 3782 8444; MoLAS/PCA; (James Dixon); historic building survey; 24 September - 15 October 2004; London Development Agency; CPX04
The analysis and recording of the two factory complexes took place during demolition in advance of development. To the south of the site, the factory buildings were of steel and brick construction and all dated to throughout the 20th century with the exception of the southernmost wall which appeared to date from the late 19th century. The complex was behind a single phase arcuated façade facing onto Carpenters Road. The complex to the north was the soap, powder and perfume factory of Yardley of London. It consisted of an Edwardian workshop range, an Edwardian building with an original chimney and later 20th century additions, a 1930s four-storey building with elements of both Tudor revival and Classical styles and some Art Deco interior features which incorporated earlier buildings in its structure, and a pair of mid 20th century shed/warehouses. The natural strata was not observed.
