Natural London clay was recorded between 59.05m OD and 51m OD.
In February 2004 ten geotechnical test pits were arranged across the grounds of the school and at the site of the former brick yard north of Albion Place. Additional work took place in June 2004 with the excavation of two more test pits within the playing surface to the rear of the building.
The natural clay was overlaid by 19th century made ground and subsoil. These were in turn sealed by modern topsoil and concrete. In five of the test pits the subsoil contained occasional carbonaceous material, chalk fragments and brick fragments and may be possible that they were remains of brick making processes or part of drainage for a brick clamp known to have been operating on the site in the 18th century.
