17 Montpellier Row [rear of], Blackheath, SE3
TQ 3967 7650; (Ireneo Grosso); watching brief; 16 June - 3 August 2004; Susan Brewer and Terry Wickenden; MPW04

Natural terrace gravel was recorded between 35.94m OD and 35.27m OD.

The watching brief consisted of the monitoring of the excavation of foundation trenches for two separate buildings at the rear of the property. The natural gravel was sealed by 19th century garden soil. Truncating this layer was an E-W aligned 19th century small boundary or drainage ditch, in turn truncated by the construction cut for the late 19th century property wall. The foundation walls and the concrete floor of a demolished garage heavily truncated the southeast side of the site.
