London Office Site

Back

Former Queen's Hospital, Queen's Road, Thornton Heath, CR7
TQ 3210 6740; (Chris Mayo); evaluation; 5 August - 11 August 2004; CgMs Consulting on behalf of Fairview New Homes; QHQ04

Natural gravels were recorded between 48.65m OD and 47.21m OD.

Natural brickearth was above the natural gravels. The earliest feature to survive was a 19th century drainage ditch with an associated gully. These cut into the natural brickearth and may have been for drainage, since prior to 1865 the site comprised field systems. Evidence for the 20th century development of the Queens Road Homes and Hospital were recorded across the site and included brick walls, timber footings, services and make-up layers. Heavy 20th century truncation due to large-scale terracing was observed across the site.
