An archaeological evaluation was conducted on this site, as a planning condition in advance of a proposed development. The work was commissioned by Adderstone Group. The aim of the work was to locate the medieval town ditch and/or the Roman Military road associated with Hadrian's Wall. The evaluation revealed the presence of post-medieval deposits overlying a series of undated deposits. No remains that could be dated to the Roman period were encountered.
