One trench was positioned in the north-west corner of the site in order to try and verify the existence of a medieval deer park pale.
Natural silty clay was recorded between 90.36m OD and 87.63m OD. It was overlain by a layer of 19th century subsoil in turn sealed by a layer of topsoil. The deposits found indicate that the site had been used as open land for the majority of its history.
