Block G, Lefevre Walk Estate, Parnell Road, Bow;
TQ 3702 8360; (Strephon Duckering); watching brief; April 2005; Willmott Dixon Housing; LVW05

Natural sand and gravel were recorded at 10.50m OD.

The area monitored during the watching brief was located on the north side of Block G, where the projected line of the Roman road to Colchester, recorded by PCA during previous phase of work, was likely to be. Late 20th-century made ground sealed the sand and gravel throughout the site with the exception of a small area in the east of the site where, above the natural deposit, was a sequence of grit, gravel and sand interpreted as metalled materials belonging to the southern most limit of the Roman road. Adjacent to the metalling was a deep squareish feature filled by redeposited natural that was interpreted as the southern roadside drainage ditch.
