The monitoring of the excavation of a pit shaft for an access lift revealed natural sand at 8.74m OD. Cutting the sand was a Roman rubbish pit, in turn cut by a later Medieval pit to the north. Cutting the Medieval pit was a construction cut for the current exterior standing wall foundation.
