Further investigation followed earlier work. A sequence of alluvial deposits, the latest ones dating to the 18th c, was recorded showing that parts of the foreshore remained exposed until the first half of the 1700. At the N end of the site mid 18th c masonry was exposed, possibly part of early dockside buildings. Evidence of silting up of the Union Dry dock in the late 20th c and of the 19th c dockside in the late 19th/early20th c, a consequence of the docks falling out of use, was also recorded. 20th c made ground sealed the site.
