Late Neolithic/Bronze Age burnt and worked flints, recovered from within cut features to the NW of the site, indicate a prehistoric presence on the site. A series of ditches were recorded across the site, although datable material was recovered from only two them. The ditch to the NE of the site contained a pottery assemblage which spanned the Late Iron Age Southern Atrebatic to more Romanised wares, dating to the period 25-30 AD, thus indicating a very early development of the Roman town of Chichester. A NE-SE ditch across the centre of the site was dated to the late 1st to 2nd c AD as were two pits in the NE corner of the site. A mid 13th-14th c pit was located to the NE of the site.
