Construction of the present bus station yard had severely truncated earlier deposits over most of the site, with earlier concrete surfaces probably representing the tramway depot dating to the early 20th century The truncation was less severe to the east of the site where 17th-18th centuries make-up layers and a 19th century wall were recorded. Truncated natural sand and gravel was observed at up to 3.32m OD.
