Natural Thames River gravels were recorded at 4.32m OD. The earliest archaeological activity was on the higher ground to the NE of the site comprising a horticultural/agricultural soil dating to the late Medieval or early post-Medieval period. The earliest structural remains were located to the S of the site, dating from between 1690 -1730, these would have been contemporary with the extant Stanley House (where building commenced in c.1691). Other deposits and features revealed during the excavations probably represent the laying out of grounds and the occupation of the site during the first part of the 18th Century, continuing into the 19th Century.
