The evaluation of the Western Forecourt found over 1.5m of 1830's construction debris used as build-up material against the western colonnade. A small trench in the western lawn found traces of a brick structure at a depth of 1.5m. The trench along the southern perimeter found the remains of the ancillary officer's house, previously the western wing of the 17th century Montague House, at less than 1m below ground level. An internal basement was also recorded.
