82 Highgate High Street, Highgate;
TQ 285 874; (Jenny Proctor); watching brief; 23 July 1999; Carol Thomas; HGE99

Six boreholes and two small test pits were recorded. Natural sand was observed between 47.33m OD and 44.46m OD. The level of the natural sand was observed to slope down considerably from the north-west to the south and east. This was overlain by deposits of made ground which increased in thickness as the level of the underlying natural dropped. The deposits were presumably laid down in order to level the area. The date of all these ground raising deposits cannot be definite as the majority of the work comprised boreholes, however yellow stock brick fragments were observed in some of the deposits suggesting a Victorian or later date.
