About PCA

Pre-Construct Archaeology (PCA) has been delivering high quality and client-focused heritage services since 1993. Over the last three decades, PCA has grown to become one of the largest professional heritage services providers in the UK.

In 2025 the company underwent an entirely amicable management takeover, which has taken effect on 1st January 2026, and which has been carefully structured to provide seamless continuity for clients and staff. This process has been fully approved by HMRC.

The transition has seen the planned departure of both Gary and Josephine Brown from the Board of Directors, and PCA, and we wish them a very happy retirement. The remaining directors continue to lead the company.

As before, our highly-experienced team of heritage specialists pride themselves on understanding our clients’ requirements: a cost-effective service, delivered on time and to budget and to a standard that meets the local or national authority expectations.

Operating from seven regional offices, PCA works across the UK and delivers tailored, accurate and professional advice and services to all our clients. Our flexible approach allows us to offer a unique package designed to meet the specific requirements of each project.

Our clients cross all sectors, both public and private, ranging from renewables companies, the rail industry and housing developers to local authorities and charitable trusts. Whether you are a private homeowner looking to build a small extension or a large construction company with a contaminated, complex project – we can help.

Quality Assurance

PCA operates to recognised professional, environmental and safety standards across the heritage and construction sectors. Our accreditations demonstrate independent audit, verified compliance, and structured quality management at every stage of delivery.

PCA is a Registered Organisation with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) and an accredited contractor compliant with SMAS Worksafe health and safety standards.

We are certified to ISO 9001:2015 for the provision of heritage services, fieldwork, consultancy, post-excavation and associated works (QMS Certificate No. 186292021), reflecting a robust, independently audited quality management system.

Our work is delivered in line with the standards and guidance of national heritage bodies including Historic England, Historic Scotland, CADW and the Department of the Environment, alongside CIfA professional frameworks.

All projects are underpinned by clear company policies and procedures, ensuring consistency, accountability and the high professional standards our clients expect.
