The Cambridge Antiquarian Society’s Autumn Conference takes place on Saturday 7 November 2026 at the University Faculty of Law, Cambridge.
The programme includes a presentation by Pre-Construct Archaeology’s Rita Pedro and Tess Townend, entitled The Burwell Beast: investigating an Aurochs.
The talk will explore the discovery of a largely complete aurochs skeleton during PCA’s archaeological evaluations at Burwell, Cambridgeshire, in August 2026. Recovered from peat deposits at the edge of the Fens, the find provides a rare opportunity to study the morphology, size and pathology of this remarkable prehistoric animal.
